Getting there and parking
- Parking open We haven't logged the location or cost of the car park yet.
- Shade open Not yet logged.
The beach
- Ground Shingle with small dark stones. Not postcard sand.
- Honestly The beach is average — the bay is the star. Come for the water and the setting and you'll be rewarded; come for soft sand and you won't.
Wind
Wind rule: still open
On paper the bay opens towards 271–277°, i.e. west — but inside the convoluted Gulf of Portoferraio our wind calculation has little explanatory power. We only log the rule once we've observed it.
- All directions: not yet assessed
A visible gap beats a guessed figure.
The feature: learn to sail on the beach
Segelzentrum Elba
Via della Marina 26, Bagnaia, 57037 Portoferraio · German-language name, courses from taster session to week-long course, individually or as a family.
- Courses Taster session through to week-long course, individual and family options.
- Prices and website open We haven't logged these yet — we'll add them rather than guess.
Beyond the sailing school the bay is sporty anyway: SUP and snorkelling both work well here.
Food and drink
Affittacamere Bar Ristorante Le Palme
The bar within towel range — this is the one that counts for our price index.
The cheapest beach we've logged so far. The espresso costs a normal counter price — no markup, because several bars compete here instead of one holding a monopoly. For comparison: at Felciaio the Aperol is €10.
Excellent. On the road behind the beach: several bars, several restaurants (set lunch at midday, pizza in the evening) and a small supermarket. If you want to save, stock up here.
Our verdict
A beach for the sporty — sailors will be happy here.
… you expect fine pale sand. What's here is shingle with small dark stones.
… the beach itself matters more to you than the bay. The beach is average, the bay is the star.
